A number of local pacers demonstrated they are coming winners when they put in great efforts last weekend to earn minor stake money.

Pacer Johnny Applesead ran his best race in this State for Bokal trainer Tracey Reed with a Gloucester Park second last Friday night in a race for claimers driven by Stephen Reed.

The six year old is likely to start in a similar event tomorrow night at the track and could win his first race of the season.

Ewington trainer Maree Spencer’s Quickbe Jack ran second at Narrogin the same night driven by Shane Young as he was forced very wide over the final lap and the winner Terris Falcon has now had eight wins and a third from 10 starts.

Quickbe Jack also ran a close up Harvey third at his previous start and certainly has his hoof on the till.

The Peter Hemsley trained, Trent Wheeler driven Pandemic is also in this category after finishing second in the following event as he settled last then raced wide before getting up outside leader and eventual winner Calcutta Money 300m from the finish.

Dellas Jack and Kapow represented another Collie trainer Dennis Morton in the final event for three year olds and both put in impressive runs to be placed.

Shane Butterworth drove Dellas Jack and he made up ground to be a 2m second to the Young trained and driven Courage Point.

Stable mate Kapow was then hung in after the start before settling back near the rear and came home strongly for third only 4m from the winner.

Two other local pacers Posh Royalty and Jossies Bell were not far away after starting from awkward barrier draws.

Courageous Ned did well to run a 1.3m fourth at Gloucester Park last Saturday night after starting from outside the back line for his local owners.

Their partner, trainer driver Shane Young, said the colt would race at the track tomorrow night in a $15,500 event for three year olds.

Feature event that night is the $100,000 State Sires Series Final for two year old colts and geldings where James Matthew should remain unbeaten after 10 starts.

12:50 PM AEST | When I heard that some obscure woman from Alaska had been selected as the Republican Party's vice-presidential nominee, my first reaction was not to check the cable news channels, or even the internet news sites. No, my first reaction was to go to YouTube.
