FAIRVIEW Primary School students sung their way to Bunbury last Friday for the City of Bunbury Performing Arts Eisteddfod.
More than 50 students performed in the eisteddfod, including the choir that performed a piece called “Dare to Dream”.
The Samba group, Fairview Percussion Party, performed a piece called Brazilian Bonanza which used large Brazilian drums, such as the tan-tan, surdo and repinique, as well as small hand held percussion instruments.
They finished in third place.
The African drumming group, Fairview Rhythm Generation, performed a piece called “African Adventure” on djembes and finished in second place.
It was a fantastic experience for the students, with many of them performing on stage at the entertainment centre for the first time.
Music teacher Naomi Swann said it was a great opportunity for students to participate in an “authentic public performance”.
“Being on stage in a venue such as the entertainment centre is a wonderful experience they will remember for the rest of their lives. I am very proud of them,” she said.
Students will continue rehearsing weekly for regular performances throughout the remainder of the year.
The school was also presented with a $250 bursary to assist with the music program.
Student Emily Wishart received it on behalf of the school at the Eisteddfod Gala Concert last Saturday night.
